Send the truth into closed countries through port cities
Many countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa are officially closed to Christian evangelism. In some countries, Bibles, Christian books and resources are illegal or nearly impossible to come by.
That’s why our Port Cities Project is such a critical ministry.
Every summer, thousands of people from North Africa and the Middle East cross the Mediterranean Sea by ferry to vacation in Europe. When it’s time to return home, they wait in long ferry lines at European ports, often bored and looking for something to do.
That’s when we tell them about Jesus and offer them a free gift—a packet containing:
- a New Testament
- a special two-language “flip” version of More Than a Carpenter
- and other Christian resources

Our port cities volunteers recently shared these stories with us:
Last summer, a Middle Eastern woman literally ran after one of our port cities teams that had run out of books, pleading, “I need that book that explains the message of Jesus!”
Another woman living in North Africa had heard about a special pack of books that were being given away to people as they boarded the ferry to cross from France to North Africa. She wrote to her cousin in Paris, “Please find this set of books and bring them to me next time you come to visit!”
