Mrs. Clark’s 7th Grade Bible Class Discusses:
The Vending Machine God
The Father Christmas Myth
“In Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door, this chapter talks about a 7 year old boy asking for God to prove himself. The boy kneels next to his bed asking for 1 million dollars from God. He wakes up in the morning with nothing that he asked for from God.
“This shows how God is not a vending machine but still answers our prayers. ‘Call to me and I will answer.’ (Jeremiah 33:3)
“See, the 7 year old was wishing not praying. A lot of adults think that God is a vending machine but He is not.
“God will listen to us and hear us for the things that matter. God does not want to hear greedy prayers.
“He wants us to seek Him not because of what He will provide us, but because praying to Him is showing how much we love Him and how much we want to seek Him.
“God does not submit to our wishes, he listens to our prayers.”
Elizabeth, age 13
God is not a wish-granting genie, but our loving Heavenly Father.
Are we praying like we know this?
- Does it really matter what you believe, as long as you have faith?
- Are there errors in the Bible?
- Was Jesus just a good teacher?
- Can anyone prove His resurrection?
- What does that have to do with me?
