Josh’s books are printed behind the Iron Curtain, in Poland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary.
A question posed to a potential global publishing partner:
“If there was one book from the West you would like to publish for Eastern Europe, which would it be?” The reply: “There is one book. When communists read it on trains they become Christians. Do you know the author, Josh McDowell?” (The book was More Than A Carpenter, which was published in the Czech language.)
Moscow
So many people want a free copy of the New Testament and the opportunity to see Josh’s books, that they stand in line for three hours to get to the Ministry booth. Book fair guards have to erect barriers to control the crowds.
Russia
Josh speaks in St. Petersburg, Russia, at a 3-day conference with 90,000 locals in attendance. 130,000 copies of More Than A Carpenter are distributed.
Former Soviet Union
Josh leads a 10-day mission trip to the previous Soviet Union, visiting Moscow, Kiev, and St. Petersburg. 250,000 copies of More Than A Carpenter, 475,000 copies of Case of the Empty Tomb and 1,500 Living Bibles are distributed. 600,000 copies of Josh’s books are printed inside Russia. The next year 1,200,000 books are printed in Russia.
China
Josh takes 15 people to China, and speaks at a seminary and church. The next year, 50,000 copies of Evidence That Demands a Verdict are printed by the Chinese government and distributed to pastors.
Cuba
Josh visits Cuba, delivering 200,000 copies of his books. Requests are made for 10 times that amount. Printing negotiations with Cuba leads to 2 million+ books distributed over the next 2 years.
Cairo
JMM attends the Cairo Book Fair to explore publishing in the Arabic speaking world. 6+ million books are printed.
World Wide Web
Digital strategies, including SD cards, USB drives, hotspots, and phone apps increase the ease and accessibility of Ministry resources, reaching an estimated 80,000,000 individuals.
Digital Discipleship Library
Creation of Josh’s Digital Discipleship Library (which includes 230 videos in nine languages).
Ukraine
Russia invades Ukraine, and our Polish partners ask for 100,000 copies of More Than A Through our partners, we are able to quickly print and distribute 217,000 copies in Ukranian to refugees in Poland and more than 10,000 copies to refugees inside Ukraine.
Arabic, Chinese, & Urdu
The ministry completes 31 new book translation projects, including resources in the Arabic, Chinese, and Urdu.
