JOSH & SEAN MCDOWELL ADVOCATE FOR INTOLERANCE IN AN INCLUSIVE CULTURE

New resource from father/son duo points to biblical truth, bridges gap between understandings of tolerance

“We believe it is possible to truly love and accept people with whom we significantly disagree—even if such an approach is increasingly considered intolerant.”

Uhrichsville, Ohio (November 2015)—Mother Teresa was intolerant of poverty. Martin Luther King was intolerant of racism. Jesus was intolerant of bigotry. So why has our culture deemed “intolerant” a dirty word when it can clearly be a beautiful thing?

Father and son duo Josh and Sean McDowell take a deep dive into truth and tolerance, examining how culture has shifted their meanings and what can be done to return to a biblical narrative in the new book The Beauty of Intolerance: Setting a Generation Free to Know Truth & Love (Shiloh Run Press, February 2016).

“This generation of young people is calling for tolerance of practically every belief and lifestyle under the sun,” write the McDowells. “They call for a new tolerance in hopes of being celebrated for their uniqueness—those things that set them apart. They want to be validated for who they are and what they feel.”

Josh and Sean examine the evolution from traditional to cultural tolerance, highlighting how two different generations view the issue and pinpointing a shift in the source of moral truth as the biggest proponent of change. Culture says that moral truth is found within the individual, rather than in the Bible.

“Step by step, we discover how biblical truth actually peels back the curtain to expose the error of the cultural view and its champion—tolerance.”

Through The Beauty of Intolerance and The Beauty of Intolerance Study Guide, the McDowells provide clarity on today’s cultural view of tolerance, detect its inaccuracies, and offer practical insight to live out a biblical view of tolerance.

Josh and Sean are available for interviews and can speak to:

  • The true meaning of tolerance: how to love those with different views
  • The fine line between tolerance and intolerance
  • What the Bible actually says about tolerance
  • How parents can respond to the tolerance their children often seek
